چکیده

The biodiversity of the Brazilian biomes inspires interest in research about biological activities molecules present flora. In this line, Petiveria alliacea a common plant species savanna Tocantins, reported treatment for snakebites, was studied to analyze phytochemical profile and evaluate activity on edema caused by Bothrops moojeni snake venom. A qualitative prospection gas chromatography associated with mass spectrometry performed. Subsequently, it evaluated whether extract triggered acute toxicity Swiss mice (doses 300 2,000 mg/kg), no toxic effects were observed. Then, antiedematogenic performed when administered orally simulated envenomation B. presence bioactive polyphenolics, flavonoids, tannins, coumarins, terpene, alkaloids saponins compounds shown. No observed, test showed evident activity. It is understood that inhibition induced venom obtained reducing pathways inflammatory cascade. Therefore, traditional effect has scientific basis, same way, its constituents qualified Key words: alliacea, moojeni, edema, inflammation, snakebite.

Antibacterial and antifungal activity of sulfur-containing compounds from Petiveria alliacea L.

A total of 18 organosulfur compounds originating from Petiveria alliacea L. roots have been tested for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. These represent compounds occurring in fresh homogenates as well as those present in various macerates, extracts and other preparations made from Petiveria alliacea. Of the compounds assayed, the thiosulfinates, trisulfides and benzylsulfinic acid...

Cysteine sulfoxide derivatives in Petiveria alliacea.

Two diastereomers of S-benzyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide have been isolated from fresh roots of Petiveria alliacea. Their structures and absolute configurations have been determined by NMR, MALDI-HRMS, IR and CD spectroscopy and confirmed by comparison with authentic compounds. Both the R(S) and S(S) diastereomers of the sulfoxide are present in all parts of the plant (root, stem, and leaves) with th...

The lachrymatory principle of Petiveria alliacea.

The lachrymatory principle of Petiveria alliacea has been isolated from a fresh homogenate of the root. Its structure and geometric configuration have been determined as (Z)-thiobenzaldehyde S-oxide by means of NMR, IR, MALDI-MS and by comparison with an authentic compound obtained by synthesis. This unique compound represents only the third naturally occurring sulfine (thiocarbonyl S-oxide) to...
